The Story of Intuitive Learning
Have you read a financial newspaper such as the "Business Standard" or "Economic Times" and have lots of jargon confuse you completely? Have you tried to follow the advice of reading financial news only to find that after 1 month, the jargon is still as confusing? Have you ever felt the frustration of not understanding a financial product and having to depend on someone else's advice, only to make losses?
While working in the financial services sector, we realized that we were amongst the very many people who had experienced the above. During the financial crisis, when Lehman Brothers became a household name, we saw the extent of losses caused by a lack of understanding of financial terms and jargons. Being strong believers in Experiential Learning, we decided to design a game which could help people learn the basics of finance while having fun. The process of conceptualizing this game started in October 2009, with DealStreet coming into being in January 2010.
Since then, DealStreet has been soft launched at Vista, IIM Bangalore Business Festival and then at Megabucks, the IIT Kanpur Business Festival. Subsequently has been used in several colleges and schools. The game has been perfected after intense testing for over 6 months over 100 testing sessions.
Our next step is to design financial modules to be included in future games. For any comments/feedback on the contents of that please click here.
